About the Award

Recipients of Nonprofit Employer of Choice (NEOC) Awards announced  


Feb 14, 2017 Toronto, Ontario – Hilborn:ECS together with partners CCEOC Inc. and The Goldie Company congratulate the recipients of the 2016  Canadian Nonprofit Employer of Choice (NEOC) Award.

In the second year of the program, eight organizations from across Canada fulfilled the requirements to be named a Canadian Nonprofit Employer of Choice.

All winners successfully completed the NEOC Organizational Profile and Employee Commitment Survey achieving a minimum overall score of 75% overall to qualify for the award. 

In 2006 it was predicted that the nonprofit sector would experience a deficit of leaders. A decade later the Social Stanford Review reports that little progress has been made. A related concern for the sector has been the lack of talent management and gaps in the skill profile of the labour force. The NEOC Award process provides a framework to evaluate an organization's talent management issues and start constructing a corrective plan of action. This program further enables the board and senior staff to probe and analyze the issues and start the transformational change needed to achieve the impact the donor rightly expects. The bottom line is always about mission impact. 

The Award

 The Nonprofit Employer of Choice™ Awards (NEOC) recognizes organizations that have committed themselves to better business management practices ensuring successful mission achievement. Canada's nonprofit sector has recognized the vital importance of  incorporating private sector business practices in areas such as marketing, financial accountability and people management while still honoring the sector’s best practices in service and mission delivery.

  • The NEOC Awards is a national program that will help participating organizations create positive brand recognition and gain a competitive advantage to attract, engage and retain top talent.
  • Candidates for the NEOC award are those nonprofits whose people leadership and vision has translated into exemplary talent management practices.


  • In celebrating the early adopters of best practice governance and management strategies, the NEOC Awards will help establish a body of knowledge that will further advance and strengthen nonprofit employment practices in this country.
  • The NEOC Awards will help your nonprofit enterprise to achieve its mission through the recognition and visibility of the award; it will help nonprofit executives further organizational objectives by increasing credibility across all stakeholder audiences; and it will provide increased positive public awareness for the sector.
  • Award recipients will receive a display plaque, be recognized as part of a media campaign and be included in award announcements on partner websites. A list of award recipients will be widely distributed to the general public and will also be recognized in Hilborn Charity e-News. Each participating nonprofit will receive a Basic Report listing their overall survey score, category scores and top 5 scoring statements. Additional detailed reports are available upon request.
